You’ve got a vibrator, and you are ready to roll, right now. Woah, hold on there partner! From using to cleaning to storing, there are just a few basic things you should know before you embark on your self-love journey.

Step 1 is to make sure that your vibrator is made of 100% body-safe, non-porous materials. Why? Click here to read our Co-founder Liz’s talk with Glamour about why choosing a quality vibrator is important. (And to those who own a Supor Vibrator, don’t worry, you’re covered 😉)

Once you’ve got your quality toy, proper vibrator maintenance isn’t hard, but it is important. Read below for some basic guidelines.

Usage

So you’re saying I shouldn’t start a second career in graphic design?

Do’s

  1. "); background-size: 1px 1px; background-position: 0px calc(1em + 1px);">water-based lubricantsOther lubricants may cause damage to your vibrator’s materials. Be careful — lubricants aren’t always clearly labeled. If you’re not sure, don’t risk it! (I may or may not be saying from experience here… ). If you need a few tips on choosing a good lube, we dive much further into the subject here plus provide a few recommendations of our own!

  2. Not sure how to clean your vibrator? Read on for some important cleaning tips!

  3. Even if you are sure to properly clean it after usage, you might just want to check to make sure it hasn’t picked up any lint or other debris before you use it. A quick rinse won’t hurt!
  4. Whether you throw it in your nightstand drawer or get dedicated storage for your new toys, put it somewhere that’s easily accessible to you. Some people get pouches for their individual toys or even use power banks to have them charging up in the background while staying hidden.

  5. There are so many ways to have fun with a vibrator (just stay safe, ok kids?)

Don’ts

  1. This includes massage oils, oil-based lubricants, and even silicone-based lubricants.
  2. Even if your vibrator is 100% water resistant, like the supor, it’s achilles’ heel is exposed when you plug it in. If the vibrator is plugged in, best keep it away from any liquids or… fluids.

Cleaning

Do’s

  1. The Lioness is completely water resistant, so don’t be shy!

  2. Purely for convenience. There are sex toy wipes out on the market, but our Co-Founder and VP of Engineering Anna says baby wipes will do!

Don’ts

  1. Not because this will affect your vibrator, but because you generally don’t want any antibacterial nonsense in or around your vagina, which will mess with your vagina’s natural pH regulation and good bacteria levels.
  2. The heat could damage the motor, and then you’d just have a fancy dildo (unless that’s what you want…?)
  3. Metal in the motor + microwave = bad news
  • Alcohol
  • Acetone
  • Petroleum
  • Acidic/alkaline cleaners

(just trust us here)

Storage

I ran out of ideas but how cute is this

Do’s

  1. I know we mentioned this one before (sorry to sound like your mother), but it’s important!
  2. Good for privacy, but also good to keep it free of debris (like your usual dresser lint) — BTW the Lioness comes with its own stylish pouch!
  3. by removing the charger when fully charged and not leaving the product in a fully depleted state for more than a week. (Good tip for your other electronics, too)

Don’ts

  1. or damage to the vibrator may ensue.
